Bruce C. Jones, 69, of Springfield, died at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Bruce was born January 29, 1945 in Kirksville, MO, the son of Cleo and Helen Lowe Jones. He married Caren Murphy on September 18, 1993 in Springfield.

Bruce was a 1963 graduate of Greentop High School in Greentop, MO and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He had worked for the shoe factory in Kirksville, MO, for 22 years before moving to Springfield in 1989. Since living in Springfield he worked for several social service agencies before retiring from Rutledge Youth Foundation after 17 years of dedicated service. He and his wife enjoyed collecting mermaids, angels, teapots, and fairies. He enjoyed watching movies, Cardinals baseball, and basketball with his wife. Bruce was known for being very knowledgeable about many types of information, and was an avid reader on all kinds of subjects. Music always was an important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, "Blackie" and Helen and one sister, Gertrude Druce.

He is survived by his wife, Caren Jones of Springfield; two sisters, Barbara Saulter of Macon, MO and Beverly Moore of Kirksville, MO; one brother, Robert (wife, Rose) Jones of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers-in-law, Donald Druce of Cheyenne, WY and Mark (wife, Dawn) Murphy of Naperville, IL; a sister-in-law, Jerilyn Webber of Corvallis, OR; and several nieces and nephews.

Bruce was the best brother in law. He was dedicated to Caren and their marriage. A hardworking, reliable, very intelligent man, Bruce had a quiet demeanor which sometimes hid his vast knowledge of the world especially history, sports and movies. I had deep respect for Bruce and will miss having him in our family.

I was fortunate to have worked with Bruce for quite a few years at Rutledge. He had way with words that brought wisdom, understanding, and laughs to both the youth and staff there.

My sympathy goes out to Caren and family in this time of loss.

I had the pleasure of working with Bruce for many years at Rutledge Youth Foundation. He had a great sense of humor and was at ease working with youth of difficult and varying backgrounds. My condolences to Caren and the family.
