I loved Calley so much, I am about 6 years younger than he was but he was always a person I looked up to. We lived in Chicago when we were kids, and every summer my Mom Ruth ( Calley's Mothers sister) and my brother and sister and I would go to Litchfield for most of the summer. I loved Calley so much, I am about 6 years younger than he was but he was always a person I looked up to. We lived in Chicago when we were kids, and every summer my Mom Ruth ( Calley's Mothers sister) and my brother and sister and I would go to Litchfield for most of the summer. He always took time to talk to me and kid with me it made me feel so good when a teen would spend time with me.

We went swimming and fishing and just had a good time. I am going to miss talking to him, and just to know he is no longer here is so awful, he was a gentle quiet soul and I know that everyone who knew him loved him.

The incredible stories his children told of his artifact finding adventures left us with wonder and to see even a part of his collection and listen to him tell us the history was an incredible moment in our lives. Calvin was a gift to all of us, a true adventurer who passed on a love of nature and how to enjoy the gifts it gives you. We never walk beside a river or pass an eroded embankment without searching for fossils and artifacts. Thank you Calvin, for this gift and the gift of your children.

Randy, we are so sorry to hear about the passing of of your Dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Patty, and your family. Even though we never had the pleasure of meeting Calvin, we can see how you developed the fondness for Artifacts and Archaeology.

Cal's family and my mother's family grew up across the street from one another in Litchfield, Illinois. My Aunt Joyce's future husband Duane was also a neighbor at that time, and he and Calvin were buddies. Calvin heard of Duane's passing in 1985 and after 30 years of no contact, paid a "respect" visit to Joyce. That was the beginning of 28 years of a loving friendship. During those years, Cal was "family" to all my family. We visited, shared family celebrations and sadness, laughter and tears. I too share the remembrances the others have left here.

Calvin brought me Henry David Thoreau. One of my fondest memories will be the morning he phoned and asked if I had time, he wanted to read me the following from Thoreau's "Walden."

"Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains. I would drink deeper; fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars."

Thanks you for letting us know of Cal's death. We have great memories of your dad.

I only knew Calvin for eight years, but trust me it was a great and interesting eight years. Calvin was a man of men, a very good man, we would have very long talks, some about years of yesterday, some of today and some of tomorrow, some of health, government, how to fix the worlds problems. However some of the best talks would be about the Clovis people, or other people of yesteryear. I always looked forward to Calvin's visits

Calvin was one of the most sincere people that I have ever known when it comes to authenticating artifacts. He would always tell me his method of doing so, it was very interesting to listen to him. Words will never describe how much I will miss Calvin, so till we meet again in the hereafter Calvin. Vaya con dios my good friend!

I was so shocked when I heard of Calvin's passing. I am still having trouble knowing that I will not be able to talk to him or see him again. I loved him dearly, His smile laugh and just being himself will be missed . Calvin's Mother was my Mothers sister, and we spent almost every summer in Litchfield when I was young. He always took the time to talk to me, laugh and just be my friend.
