Taylor Carver Scott, Jr., 93, of Springfield, IL, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Concordia Village in Springfield, IL.

Taylor was born in 1920 in Bradenton, FL, a son of Taylor and Harper Scott, Sr. He married Emily in 1947; who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his one daughter, Emily Scott and two brothers, Jasper Scott and Thomas Scott.

He is survived by his sons, Taylor Carver (spouse, Cindy) Scott III of Springfield, IL and Thomas Nelson (spouse, Gwen) Scottgale of Danvers, MA; four grandchildren, Ryan (spouse, Laura) Scott of Lexington, KY, Michael Scott of Springfield, IL, and Emily and Daniel Scottgale, both of Danvers, MA.

Taylor served during World War II. After graduating from the University of Florida, he earned his PhD at the University of Maryland. He taught Sociology for the University of Maryland in their overseas program in both Europe and the Pacific area. He also taught at several institutions in the southeastern United States, retiring from Georgia Southern University in 1988. He retired to Sarasota, FL and recently relocated to Springfield, IL to live near family.
