Janice (Jan) Blomgren Johnson of Edinburg, IL, passed away on May 1, 2015 at the Intensive Care Unit at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Jan was born January 12, 1943 in Rockford, IL to Marold Otto and Elsie M. (Nelson) Blomgren. She graduated from Rockford East High School in 1961 and the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1965. She married Jerry P. Johnson at Salem Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL on May 17, 1969.

Jan was a civilian employee for the United States Army in Korea for one year, a recreation specialist for the Rockford Park District for two years, and an employee of the State of IL, Department of Public Aid, as a caseworker and EEO officer, for 31 years.

Jan is survived by her husband Jerry (a retired ISP Lt.); a daughter, Joan D. Johnson of Oak Lawn, IL; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Rickard and Ronald; and her aunts and uncles.

Jan was a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and a "Good Friend" of Sangamon Auditorium. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, State of Illinois Retirees, Lincoln Memorial Garden, Arbor Day Foundation, CUB, Nature Conservancy, American Association of University Women, NOW, World Wildlife Fund, Wilderness Society, and Planned Parenthood. Her hobbies included travel, reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, coupon collecting, and computer games. She loved animals, caring for many adopted dogs and cats for many years. She leaves behind her lab, Toth; her cat, Aster; and her 18 year-old cat Princess, who she adopted and renamed within the past month.

Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.

The family will host a Memorial Ceremony in Springfield at a later date. Friends and loved ones who contact Jerry Johnson by telephone or e-mail will be notified of the ceremony details.
