Tribute & Message From The Family

James Richard Weistart died at his home in Rochester of bone cancer on Saturday, October 10, 2015.

James was born January 14, 1942, in Bloomington, the son of Frank and Verna (nee Barth) Weistart, and grew up in Minonk, IL.

He graduated high school as co-valedictorian, and subsequently earned undergraduate degrees in both Psychology and Economics at the University of Chicago. He was a member of Mensa. While in Chicago, he served as part of a National Guard deployment protecting Dr. King during his civil rights march in Cicero, and worked for Public Aid on Chicago's South Side.

Moving to Springfield in 1973, James worked for the Illinois Department of Insurance for thirty years. He also obtained three master's degrees in Psychology, Operations Research, and Computer Science. Pastimes included motorcycle touring and raising prize winning garlic.

James was preceded in death by his brother, David, and a niece, Whitney. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rosemary; step-son Robert Pantages (Phoebe); granddaughters, Haven and Ever of San Diego; three brothers, Jerome (Jean) of Chillicothe, Barth of Phoenix, AZ, and John (Denise) of Raleigh, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.

A family graveside service is planned in Minonk Cemetery.

Friends and neighbors are invited to drop by the family home between 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015. As James would want, the gathering will be informal.

Memorial contributions are not expected, but may be made to: Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702 or Memorial Home Hospice, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702, both of which have special significance for James.
