James Joseph Murphy, 87, of Greenview, IL, formerly of Reidsville, NC, died at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at his daughter's home.

James was born April 7, 1928 in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Eileen Westray Murphy. He married Thelma Lucille Nelson on April 12, 1947 in Springfield, IL.

James was a manager for Lillard Beverage and loved golf, yard work, and spending time with his neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lillian Wade; and one brother, Byford Young.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Murphy of Springfield, IL; three children, Julie (husband, Dan) Blakley of Greenview, IL, Michael (wife, Susan) Murphy of Rocky Point, NC, and Brian (wife, Jennifer) Murphy of Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Cremation care was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.

My brother and I will always treasure the wonderful memories of all the good times we had together in Springfield.Especially singing all of the great old Irish songs while eating pizza. Rest in peace.
