Ronald Gene Rees left this world Saturday morning, February 23, 2013 at 12:15 a.m. to go to heaven to find the best golf course there.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara (Welle) Rees; sons, Eric and Colton; daughter, Mary Lou (Rees) Rooney; grandsons, Ryan Johnson and Michael Rooney; great-granddaughters, Paige and Julena Johnson; brother, Gene (Ramona) Rees; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Thayer, Illinois, July 14, 1938, the son of Edwin and Jeanie (Stewart) Rees. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Robina Musso; three brothers, Edwin, Morgan and Alexander; and one niece, Jean Marie (Musso) Bailey.
He was a graduate of Virden High School Class of 1956 and after graduation he entered the Navy and served his country for eight years. He retired from the Department of Transportation.
Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
Memorial Gathering & Concelebrated Funeral Mass: The family will be hosting a memorial gathering from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga principal celebrant and Rev. George Morelock celebrant.
Inurnment will follow at Immaculata Columbaria at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
