Tribute & Message From The Family

Mrs. Erline Joyce (Adams) Swenson, 80, died on Easter Sunday, March, 31, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Joyce was born on June 29, 1932, in Buchanan, GA, the daughter of Floyd Adams Sr. and Ruby (Rice) Adams. At six years old she incurred an ankle injury on which she had surgery that affected her the rest of her life. Joyce's childhood nickname was "Squirrel" and she was very athletic in her younger years. She played on the basketball team at Buchanan High School prior to graduating. She received a scholarship to a prestigious university in Georgia. She graduated from secretarial college in Chicago, IL.

Joyce was employed for the Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago. She later served as a secretary and receptionist for various different doctors, dentists, and nursing homes. Joyce had also served as a low-level manager for Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago. She was DEEPLY devoted to the Republican Party, her Christian Church and her family. For a short time, Joyce was active with "Senior Services" of Springfield, IL. Joyce suffered from atrial fibrillation, C.O.P.D. and thyroid problems. She greatly enjoyed cooking and reading her favorite Christian pamphlet, God's Healing Power, by minister Charles Capp. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and had previously been a member of various church groups. Joyce was kind hearted and in a word, she was a philanthropist.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Robert Swenson in 1997. His death deeply saddened her and she became much more of an introvert after his passing. She was also preceded in death by her immediate family members including her parents; one brother, Floyd Adams Jr.; and two sisters, Amilee and Annettee "Shirley".

She is survived by her immediate family members including her two sons, *Jonathan and Steven, both of Springfield; and one brother, Pank of Georgia.

Joyce's wishes were to be buried next to her husband, Larry, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Chicago, IL. Private family burial will be held.
