Alan Dale Spann, 60, of Springfield, died at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Springfield.

Alan was born October 2, 1954 in Lincoln, the son of Benjamin and Ethel Mae Wilham Spann. He married Cindy Lawrence on May 14, 1993 in Springfield.

Alan was a graduate of Springfield High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He worked for the Secretary of State for over 25 years. Alan was a great husband and accomplished a great deal in life, even though he was legally blind. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Spann of Springfield; mother, Ethel Mae Spann of Springfield; son, Ryan Towell of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Jill Zolman of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Alexzandra and Viktoria Zolman, both of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Betty Williams of Lincoln; one brother, John (wife, Janis) Spann of Springfield; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special companion pet, Patsy.

Memorial Gathering and Celebration of Life: The family will host a Memorial Gathering from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Elm Street Christian Church, 3020 E. Elm St., Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Harley Helping Hands Foundation, 8 Lake Ridge Court, Burr Ridge, IL 60527 or Hospice Hearts, P.O. Box 456, Savoy, IL 61874.

Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
