Jerry died in his sleep, Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born to Ralph and Elisabeth Weaver Turnbull on March 15, 1938 in Springfield. He graduated from Kent School and went on to graduate from Brown University in Providence, RI in 1961.

He began his career as a banker at 1st National Bank where he worked from 1963 until 1984, when he became President and CEO of Land of Lincoln Bank. After retirement, he split his time between Springfield and Hilton Head Island, SC.

Jerry was a lifelong golfer and served as Treasurer, Vice-President, President, Chairman of the Board, and a Board Member of the State Farm LPGA Rail Classic from its inception in 1976 until the last year. He served on the boards of the Heart Association, United Way, Brother James Court, Springfield Boys and Girls Club, and was a lifelong member of American Business Club.

As a friend once said, "He was for everyone" and to every one of his friends, he was a "true" friend. Jerry's life was a full one. He was a man of integrity, grace, and good cheer. His steadfast honesty favored no one, but this sincerity was what endeared him to virtually everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan Turnbull Denby.

Jerry is survived by his best friend and wife of 49 years, Barbara; his sister, Elisabeth (husband, Stan) Turnbull Wheeler of Cape Cod, MA, brother-in-law, Jack (wife, Bernardine) Hatcher of Rochester; and his four nieces and one nephew.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Hospice, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62769
