Joseph “PaPa Joe” Boerio, 84, of Springfield, died at his residence on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 6:17 p.m. surrounded by his family.

Joseph was born December 15, 1925 in Jeiseyville, the son of Thomas and Costanza Lamongo Boerio. He married Joan Bart on February 2, 1974 in Petersburg.

Joseph was a graduate of Kincaid High School and immediately joined the Marine Corp. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in the Battle of Iwo Jima during WWII. He loved his country and his Marine Corp. Brothers. Joseph was a life member of D.A.V., VFW, American Legion, P.V.A., Marine Corp. League, and Purple Heart. He lived life for his family, the sunshine, his birds and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Boerio; and one daughter, Sherry Lynne.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Springfield; one son, Joseph (wife, Gloria) Boerio of Colorado; one daughter, Mary Jo Stark (Dallas) of Springfield; three grandchildren, Toni Jo Stark of Springfield, Joshua Joe (wife, Shelly) Stark of Riverton, and Nicholas (wife, Mary Jo) Conrad of Springfield; eight great-grandchildren, Anthony Joseph, Cheyenne Joan, Hanna Lynn, Joseph Edward Stark, and Timothy, Verotika, Damian and Gaberial Conrad; and two brothers, Thomas (wife, Betty Lou) Boerio of Kincaid and Charles “Chuck” Boerio of Boulder, CO.

Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Camp Butler National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the services at the DAV Lake Springfield, 25 Club Area, Springfield, IL.
